More Corrugated Magenta

Today I am sharing two more projects using the Magenta corrugated buttons for a feature I did on them on the Magenta blog.



I loved these photos because of the sky behind Alex.  She had climbed onto stacked hay bales and I was looking up at her which is how the clear blue sky became a beautiful backdrop.  Her orange sweater and dark brown hair contrast so well with the blue of the sky.  The photo became my inspiration for both the title and the colours used.

I am really pleased with how these turned out even though I kept both very simple as I was still dealing with vertigo.  I have to say that trying to scrap was hard enough but taking pictures of my projects, while experiencing vertigo, presented a whole new challenge.  Not only did it take way longer to set up a photo but I had to take so many more pictures to get anything that was usable.  Looking forward to getting back to 100%, that's for sure! LOL!

Try Something New

I love to try new techniques.  My motto is ... you won't know, unless you give it a go.  So when I saw this tie-dye technique from Becky Fleck, on the Scrapbook and Cards Today blog, it intrigued me and I wanted to give it a try.



Supplies: tissue wrapping paper (miscellaneous), glimmer mists (Tattered Angels), modge podge (Plaid), cardstock (Super Stock), chipboard letters, acrylic wings (Heidi Swapp), stamps (See D's, House of 3/Pink Paislee, 7 Gypsies, Making Memories, Melissa Frances), ink (Rangers), journal cards,tag and ink (CTMH), pen (Creative Memories), visitor admission lapel clip (National Gallery of Canada)

My paper of choice was a large sheet of white tissue wrapping paper.  I had a photo already in mind for this layout so I chose 2 different blues, a purple and a cream coloured Tattered Angels Glimmer mists.  I crumpled the tissue into a ball as instructed and sprayed it from lightest to darkest colour in a large box, rotating it as it expanded and the areas filled with colour.  I chose to spray 4 different tissue sheets so I could try it with different amounts of colour.  After I let the sheets sit for a while, I carefully uncrumpled them and then let them dry over night.

The next day, I chose the one that I felt best represented a sky with clouds and took a 12x12 heavier cardstock sheet and Modge Podged the page and adhered the tissue using a brayer to smooth it out.  I let it dry , trimmed the edges to within an inch and then turned the layout over and adhered the tissue edges onto the back; thereby creating a very finished look to my now ready background paper.  After copious amounts of stamping and some embellishing, it was done.

I think it worked well in representing a sky.  I would give this technique a try again.  Next time I am thinking it will be with paper so I can make some pretty flowers like Becky's.

Peek A Boo, I See You!

My first blog post went up with Magenta.  I had some fun coming up with an alliterative title for the post... Pimp Your Patterned Paper with Punches.  From the title you can see a whole lot of punching goin' on.  My background design inspiration was a cosy knit sweater.  Perfect for the cooler weather as we approach Fall.

The photos are some really funny early shots of Alexandria at 10 months.  She was such a smiley easy going baby. She would actually sit like that without squirming.  She loved to play or rather watch finger/hand games/songs and her most favourite game was peek-a-boo.  This is evident from that beaming smile on her face.  Her smile brings a smile to my face without fail!

PageMaps September Sketch Layout

This was a great PageMaps sketch by Becky for September.  I love how she inspires me and many others in the creation of great layouts. 

As soon as I saw this one, I knew I wanted to do a school themed layout.  Here is my take using some Magenta fall lines, corrugated products, stamping, sewing and lots of inking.

This was a fun way to look back and finish off the summer with only one more day before the start of another school year...  grade 6, her she comes.  More first day photos to add to the memory files come Tuesday.

Happy 1st Blog Anniversary!

Or as I like to call it blogiversary.  Using the August kit from My Scrapbook Nook, featuring MME's Lime Twist - Fly a Kite collection, I made this celebration card.

Magenta Sketch Challenge #24

This month's Magenta Sketch Challenge #24 features a classic card design.  You can find all the details over at the Magenta blog.

Here is my take:

Supplies: patterned paper, corrugated buttons (Magenta), wht cardstock (Bazzill), craft cardstock, stamp & ink (CTMH), punches (Fiskars, Stampin' Up)

I cut out different strips from the patterned paper from both sides and I used the corrugated buttons as a mini frame to highlight the fussy cut butterflies.  I inked all the edges to make define everything and make it pop.

Nook Virtual Crop Challenge

I am not a fast scrapper and thus having limited time to scrap this past weekend, I got this layout done after the end of the crop.  For me the scrapping is an expercise in speed or getting layouts and cards done, it is for creative process and art.  I will slowly pick away at a few of the other great challenges over the next bit that I readily had ideas and photos for.

Here is LG's Challenge #1. She chose to make a sketch the inspiration.



Here is my take on it:

MME Challenge #26

Totally inspired by the Elizabethian attire from The Nook's Shakespearean Crop so for this month's MME Sketch Challenge #26, I used the So Sophie collection from MME. 

Supplies: patterned papers, dimensional sticker, vinyl sticker (MME), punch (Recollections), dressform cardboard (Pink Paislee), lace, pearls (Prima, Dollarama), glitter foam letters (American Crafts), glitter mini letters (Making Memories), flowers (Petaloo), ink (CTMH)

This photo was a candid shot that I got before my daughter noticed I had the camera when she was fishing at the cottage.  She had such a model sort of pose and when I was reviewing my pictures of that day, this photo struck me as her looking soooo much older than 11 years old.  The journaling says it all... if this is 11, I am a bit afraid of what 16 will look like!

Lots of distressing, inking, crumpling, punching and layers.
