Fantastic Friday and Hallowe'en Fun!!!

I am on an unbelievable scrap happy high today!  I have two successes to share!

1.  I found out late yesterday that one of my layouts will appear in Scrapbook News and Review Magazine when the edition goes live on October 31st.

2. It became official today, I am one of 37 Second Round Finalists for a position on the Creative Memories Design Team!  Check out the annoucement here.  An unbelievable 12 members from My Scrapbook Nook made the cut. (I tell you that place oozes talent.)  They are shipping out their Christmas Limited Edition line "Very Merry" paper and embellishments for finalists to wow them with creations.  I cannot wait for it to hit my doorstep!  I already have my ideas sketched out and I am getting my photos ready.  May the mail carriers be speedy in their delivery because the wait is going to be my undoing!

Lastly, I am sharing some Hallowe'en craftiness.

Supplies:  patterned paper and stamp (Cosmo Cricket, Making Memories), cardstock (blk- Nicole, wht- CTMH), ink (CTMH), gauze (Shopper's Drug Mart),  google eyes (Dollarama)

I made 35 of these with the help of my daughter and her friend, Amanda, for their class.  They were meant to be candy holder mummies (I even found nut free jelly beans and ju jubes.) However, my daughter came home from school yesterday saying the whole school was not allowed to bring in candy.  So there went the candy part but still a festive card to share with her class.  On the bright side, the girls scored as they got to eat the candy while crafting!

Scrapbook and Cards Today!!!

I read Scrapbook and Cards Today's blog regularly.  This week, they have been featuring one of my favourite companies Pink Paislee and a My Scrapbook Nook friend, Lynn Ghahary.  So on Wednesday, when they asked for reader submissions using Pink Paislee products, I naturaly fired off an email with a layout that I made with the Bayberry Cottage collection using a Becky Fleck's PageMaps sketch.  This is one of my favourite lines of theirs and it came to me by way of a Nook kit.  Well imagine my excitement when Catherine emailed me back and asked if I would mind sharing it with readers.  Would I ever!!!  So on Thursday, she featured my Absolutely Absorbed layout.  Be sure to check it out here at Scrapbook and Cards Today!

ScrapFest Fun!

I attended ScrapFest in Oshawa on Friday night and it was fantastically fun!

Here was the VIP Swag bag...

VIP Swag Bag

I started off at Canadian Scrapbooker magazine's booth.  I was chatting with Katharina Doyle (co-founder) and Sue Sykes when Sue started to talk to a lady that walked up beside me and lo and behold it turned out to be my fellow My Scrapbook Nook friend Lori Mancini who I had planned to meet at the event!  Then along came her friend Jennifer another Nooker. It is fabulous to get to actually meet in person the people that I chat with on a regular basis in the scrappy Nook world. I love that people are just as sweet in person as they are on the boards and blogs!

I met a lot of other really nice store owners and booth staffers who were very friendly and helpful.  Love that there is so much scrappy goodness all in one location and yes, I did shop a bit. *giggle* Picked up a bunch of stuff from my winter CHA wishlist and some that wasn't on it but amazing to behold!

The above were 75% off finds!

Assortment of fabulous embelishments and the Prima's were 25% off-yeah!

Bella Blvd., Echo Park, American Crafts,
Shabby Green Door, Creative Imaginations, Graphic 45, Pink Paislee/House of 3

My Mind's Eye - some Flocked Haunted craft papers and
some of the awesome glittered  Lost and Found collection

Another of my favourite places and part of the reason I decided to attend this new Fall addition of ScrapFest was the Scrapbooks and Cards Today Interactive Studio.  I had a great time at their studio in the Spring.  Not only are Catherine Tachdjian (founder) and Kimber McGray (DT Member and card maker extraordinare) extremely friendly and fun to chat with, they have arranged some fabulous make and takes with a variety of styles and genres.  I also had a chance to chat with their fellow booth mate Lisa Kisch... such a sweet gal!

Here are the fun things that I had an opportunity to make...

I even won the draw at this one and received a QuickCuts Nest Flower Die Cut set. Woohoo!Looking forward to more Scrapbook and Cards Today fun at CreativFestival next week!

New BasicGrey Gallery!

It's back!

BasicGrey has its' new gallery up and running. It has some pretty cool new features such as a magnified floating viewer square and links to products used in the project.

This layout was accepted to their gallery!

Check out my layout here with all it's details.  I made this layout with My Scrapbook Nook's February 2010 kit.  I have lots of this kit left and several other ideas.  Now I just need to get some layouts done and see if they too will be accepted.

So all you ladies who scrap with BasicGrey, be sure to submit your projects made with BasicGrey products to their new gallery!

Playing with some Harmonie

I hand a chance last week to visit Scraps of Joy, a LSS in Barrie, and picked up a few Harmonie products.  I really was hoping to pick up some of their chipboard but alas the search is still on.  Today I  am sharing a fall themed Thank You card that I made using some Harmonie stamps and paper.  The tree stamp is actually part of their winter "Blizzard" line but I turned it into a fall tree by colouring in the "leaves".  I matched the colours of the striped paper from a variety of inks in my collection.

Supplies:  patterned paper and tree with cardinal stamp (Harmonie), cardstock (Core'dinations teal, Close to my Heart wht), inks (Close to my Heart, Stampin' Up), thanks stamp (Inkadinkado), ribbon (Michael), punch (Fiskars), misc. thread, staples and foam pop squares

Enjoy your day!

So Excited!!!

Two of my layouts are published in Ezines this month!

The First up is the October issue of ScrapStreet Magazine.  Easy Street column writer, Nicole Martel, features layouts that use large photos as the feature point of a page.  You can view the article and scroll down a bit here to see my 2nd Generation layout made using BoBunny's Mamarazzi collection.  It is so fun to be with fellow online scrappy friends from My Scrapbook Nook on this page of the article!

The second one is a favourite Halloween one of mine published in the October issue of  Scrapbooking.com Magazine.  It is featured in the Departments of Scrapbooking Stamps section.  When editor, Jami Peterson, contacted me about this layout, I was so thrilled and flattered.  It was originally made for "So you think you can stamp?" Contest.  It features Making Memories Spellbound collection and stamping on transparencies as the Round 2 challenge.  You can view my "Spellbound Witch" layout, article and my how-to instructions here.   You can also either view the audio/video YouTube clip (click on arrow over side layout) or have the article read to you by clicking on the cool audio feature.

I am so happy and tickled pink to be able to share my art with such a diverse and wider audience.  I hope you enjoyed my layouts.

Nook U - Botany 101

The very flowery, bling loving, sweet Camilla's class, Botany 101,  featured the use of... you guessed it... flowers.  The assignment was to use a minimum of 5 flowers, with at least 2 different kinds (different sizes of the same flower did not count) and 2 different colours.

I had the perfect photo for this assignment that I have been waiting to scrap for some time.  This challenge proved perfectly suited to this photo.

Supplies: Flowers(Prima, Making Memories, PSX), CS green (Core'dinations), CS white (CTMH), fabric letters (American Crafts), jewels (SandyLion), pen (Creative Memories), Font (Angelina)

I kept the design graphic and simple to keep the focus on the photo.  My flower choices, as you can see, were based on the colour of flower petals in the photo.  I ended up using 18 flowers with 5 different kinds in 5 different colours.  I used Core'dinations embossed cardstock and lightly sanded the centre area of my cut piece to slightly bring out the embossed pattern.  I love, love, love how this turned out!

Crate Paper Sketch Challenge

I am lovin' the Nook September Kit featuring Crate Paper's Restoration collection.  I took this really fun photo of my daughter and mother-in-law when I came home from work one day.  The photo and the colours in the photo really suit the Restoration collection well.  I used the Crate Paper's blog September Sketch which I turned side ways to the left.

Supplies: PP, chipboard stickers, die cut stickers (Crate Paper), glitter chipboard letters (K and Company), puffy letters (American Crafts), jewels and flourish (Prima), jewel bracket (CTMH), border punch (Stampin' Up), marker (Sharpie), blk pen, Creative Memories
The layout is a tribute to a fun childhood memory that I wanted to preserve.  For a period of time, my daughter was totally enamoured by Fancy Nancy storybooks.  My mother-in-law is such a great sport and will do whatever her grandchildren love to do.

Journaling reads: Every Tuesday after school is grandma day! Grandma plays whatever you want to play. This time you were holding FANCY Classes!

How to be FANCY like Nancy!
- glitter, sparkles and jewels are all the essential tools
- dressing up with lots of accessories,
- pick a posh puppy and pinkies up!

My daughter, who is also quite a clever writer, helped with the "How to be Fancy like Nancy" journaling. It was a really fun having my daughter contribute to this layout and working on the journaling with her.

Woo hoo! I'll take it!

I received a Prima BAP sketch challenge Honourable Mention for their August BAP today.  Check it out http://prima.typepad.com/prima/2010/09/augusts-bap-winner.html SO EXCITING!!!  One of my online gal pals over at My  Scrapbook Nook, Camilla, was the winner and another fellow Nooker Nicole P. also received an honourable mention!  Also exciting!

I had posted my BAP entry near the beginning of the month but it now warrants a repost.

Title: My Sweet Friend
Journaling reads: Hannah, who likes to swim, sing and design fashions with me.  For five years we have been summer sisters.  How the time has flown!

I layered the paintable overlay over patterend paper for a great effect and then incorporated the patterned paper text  into the titling.  After fussy cutting the bird and branch with leaves out of the patterned paper, I outlined all of the imaged areas with a marker. For a complete supply listing check here.

Doing a small happy dance!
