Give Wings To Your Passion

Hi All!

Today I am sharing an upcycled tag with a bird theme inspiration by Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge: Birds of a Feather.

The tag is from a beautiful cozy Christmas present throw from Indigo/Chapters. It is a great cardstock weight and had a gorgeous gold foiled border. I partially covered the wording by using Whipped Spackle through the Magenta Square Centred Overlapping Circles stencil. Once dry, I wet the area and added Mango Tango Nuance powder. Once it started to activate, I picked up some colour with a small brush and splattered a bit onto the white areas of the tag. I then, set it aside and let the powder water mix do its thing. After it was thoroughly dried, I used a Sakura Quickie Glue pen to add gold foil to some areas and black acrylic paint splatters. Love the way it turned out. You can still somewhat see the item identifying description through the media but that just adds to the layering.

Next, I stamped the Zen Sunflower Bird onto vellum with Jet Black Archival Ink and coloured it using Zig Clean Color Brush Markers first and then going back in with a fine water brush for a watercolour effect. This was my colouring for Day 6 of Kathy Racoosin's 30 Day Coloring Challenge. After fussy cutting it out, it was too flimsy and did not pop enough off the background so I adhered it to cardstock with Glossy Accents and then fussy cut it again.

Then, I stamped the Give WIngs to Your Passion sentiment with VersaMark on black cardstock and heat embossed it with Simon Says Stamp Fine White embossing powder. I trimmed it down and cut in the ends. Next, I used the Quickie Glue pen on the edge and to create a few splatter spots and adhered some gold foil.

Now the tag was ready to assemble. I glued down a few scrap distressed and die punched flowers, added some gold thread, foam taped the bird and sentiment, tied on some glass bead trim, and lastly, added some black glitter glue to the flower centres. There you have it!

Be sure to check out the Simon Says Stamp Monday Birds of a Feather Challenge here for more feather friendly inspired entries.

What a Wonderful World!

Today, I am sharing a little 4 1/8 x 4 5/8 " (10.5 x 11.5 cm) sparkly stencilled card coloured with alcohol inks that I have up on the Magenta blog. It is really a challenge to show the amazing look of this card as it is hard to capture the effect it has in real life with a photo.

Supplies: Bird stencil and sentiment stamp (Magenta), Tim Holtz Alcohol inks [Citrus, Espresso, Sunshine Yellow, Pink Sherbet, Sailboat Blue], Distress Clear Rock Candy Glitter, Peeled Paint and Forest Moss Distress inks, Black Soot Archival ink, Matte Gel (Ranger), 130 lb cardstock (Creative Scrapbooker Super Stock)

For this card, I started on a 130lb cardstock and stenciled the Bird on a branch with a mix of matte gel and Distress Clear Rock Candy Glitter. After I removed the stencil, I sprinkled more glitter on top and let it dry.

Once it was thoroughly dry, I tapped off the excess glitter and then used a variety of alcohol inks to paint the glitter. The leaves are painted with different concentrations of Citrus with blending solution and same for the branches using Espresso. The bird is painted with Sunshine Yellow, Pink Sherbet, with a touch of Sailboat Blue to darken the pink in spots. Next, I stamped the What a Wonderful World sentiment in black ink and added a little splatter with Peeled Paint and Forest Moss Distress inks. Lastly, I matted the piece on a cardstock cardbase.

Colouring with the alcohol inks on the glitter gel was surprisingly fast and easy because there is such little dry time for the inks. Start with a light hand as you add colour and build as you go. This technique creates a unique glitter stencilled card with dimension. I hope you give it a try.

Celebrating a New Year!

Happy New Year!

Here's a festive Cheers toast to 2018 card. I went with a retro feel for this Magenta celebration card both in colour and design.

I started by cutting a piece of Ingrid pattern paper into a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2 " panel, adhered it to a cardbase, and using the Stars stencil, I inked it with Gold Glitz Delicata ink and then slightly offset with Tuxedo Black Memento ink. Then, I cut a champagne glass out of Canson XL watercolour paper using a Silhouette cut file. I also cut out the "cheers" sentiment from cardstock at the same time. I covered the glass shape with a very watery watercolour using Golden Yellow Nuance. Once dry, I added more Golden Yellow powder to the water and a tiny touch of Ocean Nuance powder to create a champagne colour. Then, I dabbed it in to create the look of bubbly liquid being sure to leave a highlight area. Once that was completely dry, I used Gold Glitz Delicata ink to stamp the Script and Postmark script sections onto the entire shape. While that was drying, I used a black Sharpie marker to colour the vinyl Retro Alphabet Peel Off numbers for 2018 and covered the cheers die cut with VersaMark ink and heat embossed it with Vegas Gold embossing powder. Next, I used the small Bubble Path Duo stencil and Unicorn pigment ink with a stub to add in bubbles on the glass and background along with a circle outline with a Stardust Gelly pen. Once I adhered all the pieces to the background, I added the teeniest sequins from the Simon Says Stamp Moonshine sequins to give it the finishing bubbly touch.

So to start the year off in a festive manner, I am entering this celebratory card into the Simon Says Stamp Monday Party Challenge.

Hope you have a happy, healthy and creative 2018!
