Cards, Cards, Cards

Yeah! I am finally on Pinterest. You can see my creative collections here. Becoming a follower would really make me happy! ;)

While I was in the process of creating a pinned gallery of my works, I realized that I missed sharing these cards that I made during my summer vacation at the cottage. I was on a card roll and made a few using Maya Road products and Jillibean Soup papers.

I find you can never have enough thank you cards, so they are one of my favourites for card making. They also tend to stay around longer with recipients... 'cause really, who doesn't like to feel appreciated.

Supplies: flowers, pins, ticket stubs, stamps (Maya Road), patterned papers (Jillibean Soup), Tim Holtz Distress ink and archival ink (Ranger), cardstock (Bazzill), embroidery thread (Aurifil Mako'ne)

Distressed and Distress inked with lots of flower material textures plus stitching, this little monochromatic 4 5/8" x 4 3/8" beauty is a little less formal with its' text form of thanks.

I kept to those warm vintage creams and browns but added a touch of class to this one with the satin black flower, pearl pins and jewels. I elected to not gesso mute the measurement background patterned paper but rather keep it vivid; however, the flip side of that decision has left me with an ongoing internal design debate as to whether to stitch the linen heart in black or not. Thus far, I have left it as is but I find I teeter on it when I come across the card in my collection. I really should just give it away already and end it but this one needs to go to just the right person who will appreciate it's beauty and keep it rather than discarding it. ;)

Supplies: linen heart, black scalloped ribbon, pins, stamp (Maya Road), patterned paper (Jillibean Soup), cardstock (Bazzill), antique button (misc.)

The flower was made from a scalloped trim and its' piece de resistance is the antique rhinestone jeweled button. Seriously gorgeous in real life.  Love it!

The last one is feminine fun with a fairly clean and simple design.

Supplies: trims, paper thread, wood spools, butterfly pin, bead, stamps (Maya Road), patterned papers (Jillibean Soup), ink and Stickles (Ranger),  cardstock (CTMH), embroidery thread (Aurifil Mako'ne)

Pink lace trim shaped into a flower with a pearl centre and a pearlized tiny butterfly pin plus added little bits of glitter on the distressed flower strip of patterned paper make this one "so sweet".

This is a great general sentiment that can be used for a variety of occasions be it a thank you, birthday, or baby card.
There is a fourth one which is a congratulations card that I made with this set however is not shown as yet because it was recently published in Creative Cards (a specialty edition by Scrapbooks and Cards Today Magazine). I will share it when I can.

Change it up with Watermelon Gazpacho

Today I am sharing a layout that I made for SNR's May 2012 edition Sketch - Change the Orientation article.  I love the vibrant colours of Jillibean Soup's lines.  For this one I used papers from the Watermelon Gazpacho collection and their red corrugated letters. The striped paper worked well with the colours in the photos lending a cohesive look to the page. The orange makes the photos pop especially with the white sanded the edges of the photos and the green title strip.  I matted the stripe stripes with white cardstock.

Supplies: Patterned Papers and Corrugated Letters: Jillibean Soup; Cardstock: Close To My Heart; Chipboard Letters: American Crafts; Pen: Creative Memories; Sketch: Lucy Chesna

The layout features my daughter and her great uncle building or rather engineering a sandcastle.  I used the engineering term in the journaling because he really is an engineer (note the pinkie ring).  It also truly captures and evokes the moment because they really did have some serious but fun discussion in regards to engineering principles for both the design and construction.

Here was Lucy's original sketch:

I rotated the sketch 90 degrees and altered one rectangle area to accommodate my title and journaling.

It has just taken 4 months!

At the end of October, I went to my first CreativFestival in Toronto (no that is not a typo, just their way of titling the event).  It is a crafting exhibit of multiple genres that happens in the spring and the fall.  There was beading, sewing, knitting, embroidery, quilting, designing, decorating, stamping, card making and ... of course my favourite and the reason I went... scrapbooking.  I was inspired to attend after a blog post on Scrapbook and Cards Today Magazine's featuring the CreativFestival and Sarah Hodgkinson's layout class that still had some spaces available.

I can't say enough good things about the class.  Sarah is an ideal teacher.  She is very organized, goes step by step and allowed plenty of time for all levels.  She even brought her sewing machine ... need I say more.    The layout was based on one of my favourite sketch go-to-gals, Becky Fleck's PageMaps.  It has just taken me 4 months but I finally got around to finishing my version of the layout.  It features Jillibean Soup's Pasta Fagioli and Core'dinations Cardstock.

Supplies:  patterned paper, cardtock stickers (Jillibean Soup), cardstock (Core'dinations and Bazzill), photo negative die cut (Tim Holtz), punch (Fiskars), font (Disney Print), ink(CTMH), pen (Staedtler), thread and twine(misc.)

See Sarah's cute layout here.  We also made that adorable Dove Christmas card with the Core'dination materials and some Jillibean Soup's Christmas Chestnut Soup that you see in Sarah's blog post link.

I felt the class was great value for money.  For forty dollars I got the class which was the double page layout and card, a small animal print Xyron, a full package of JilliBean Soup Core'dinations cardstock, and the Jillibean sticker sheets and patterned paper remnants.  On top of that, I even won a package of the new Stacy Julian Core'dinations pack in a give away.  Wow, such fabulous manufacturer sponsorship!  A big thank you to those companies.

It was a great crafty experience and I would definitely take a Sarah Hodgkinson class again in the future.  The Spring CreativFestival is coming soon and I look forward to seeing the class schedule.  Fingers crossed for another Sarah class.
