This Little Light of Mine

Today I am sharing a journal page that I finished up at Crop and Create Markham.

I made this one with washi tape inspired by a Get Messy Art Journaling prompt set 1 - #5 and Ann-Mari Reigstad's use of filling a page with washi bits. I also added in lyrics from a previous pre-class prompt.

A few close ups... here I hand drew the star and lettering.

I was able to use eleven different washi tapes in three different widths.

Took it Off the Rails with Pop & Colour

I really liked the colours and images along with the sketch over at Off the Rails Scrapbooking this month. Paired with some new learning... I am taking the Pop & Colours #3 course... this is what I created...

Supplies: cardstock (Canadian Scrapbooker Super Stock), gesso (Golden), stencil (The Crafter's Workshop), gelatos and black Stamper's Big Brush (Faber-Castell), Glimmer Mist and Glimmer Glaze (Tattered Angels), patterned paper (Webster's Pages), script print canvas (Pink Paislee), stamps (Unity Stamps), foam and fabric letters (American Crafts), ink, Tim Holtz Distress paint and gel medium (Ranger), pens (Zig and Sharpie), glass beads, trim and organza fabric (Dollarama)

I used many of the techniques taught by Riikka Kovasin in the first lesson. I used up scraps of die cuts which was great but they were mostly paper ones. Next time I would use all cardstock or chipboard ones for the base background process.

I was liking the texture of that first inspiration photo and then the beaded waistband in the second so I wanted to incorporate them both in the layout hence the fuzzy trim and the beads.

Definitely stretching my comfort zone with this one which is a good thing. My daughter and her friend think it is kickin' so that makes it worth it in of itself.

This Makes Me Happy

Don't you just love it when you see a sketch and an idea instantly comes to mind?  The August Week #3 sketch at Let's Get Sketch by Ashley Horton had that affect on me.  When I saw it, I new I wanted to use a bright cheery collection of colours and which photo that I wanted to use.

Here is the result...

I used Allison Kreft's Sweet Notes collection from Webster's Pages. Great vibrant colours and the bookshelf image was apropos for the photo.

While not visible in this photo, my daughter was reading a book and that is what prompted me to grab my camera and take photos. Not because she was reading... LOL ... that is a constant occurrence with her... it was that she was so into her book and was clearly expressing the happenings on her face.  The layout is a bit about that but more that she is sweet and indulgent and humors me as I take photos of her which she knows I will end up scrapping.  The whole series of photos shows her reading, then a little perturbed with an eyebrow raising look but ultimately laughs at me.  Hence the photo.  I hide a large portion of the journaling for this one on the tag tucked in near the top of the page.

Also doing a little happy dance because I finally received the Silhouette that I ordered and got to incorporate my first ever cut as part of my title design. Love it!

The Perfect Pairing!

New for 2011, Scrapbook and Cards Today and Becky Fleck's PageMaps launched a 2011 Sketch Calendar.  The sketches are inspiring per usual which is why I love Becky's PageMaps.  I have a plan to use the calendar such that I do the monthly sketch with the products from My Scrapbook Nook's monthly kits.  Thus, at the end of the year I will have some fabulous pages that combine my two favourite scrapping things.  So here is my take on February's sketch with the Nook's kit featuring Webster's Pages.

The Webster's Hollywood Vogue line is some gorgeous stuff.  You almost don't want to cut into it, it is so pretty. 

As to March's sketch...  I am looking forward to receiving my March Kit in the weeks to come.  Here is what it looks like.

Hot off the heels of CHA, this kit features Crate Paper's Emma Shoppe and MME's Stella Rose with some Webster Pages trims.  Ooh... this is going to be a fun one!
