Family Time

Here in Ontario last Monday was Family Day. An actual statutory holiday devoted to spending time with your family.  In our often insane fast paced daily lives the simple pleasure of enjoying ones family can get lost.  When I saw Becky Fleck's PageMap Blog Challenge sketch for February, I knew the photo I wanted to document.  One I had taken earlier in the month at one of our Sunday dinners of my husband, his sister and his mom.  I love the special time spent with his family and the relationships developped both by and with myself but also amoungst the cousins.  It all goes to building a special bond and lifetime memories ...  Sunday dinner at Grandma's.

Family time...time well spent!

Yearning for Warmer Weather

In wishing that spring would show some signs of appearing, I went and finally finished this project I had put aside because I was missing the letter "s" and needed to order more.  I am sure some might think just choose another font etc. ...however... sometimes a girl just has to have her way and this was one of those moments for me.  I am normally very resourceful and can make due with what I have but I really wanted the look once I got it figured out and thought no problem about ordering more as I knew where to get some.   Well at least that was supposed to be the case.  I ordered it no problem however when the package arrived they were out of stock and unable to fill the order. Rats! Rats! Rats! I finally found them else where but it took sometime and I got them about a month ago. Yeah!!!!

So I finished it up and played with some doodling in white.  Very cool effect if I say so myself!

Here is to warmer weather and sun shiny days!

Snow, Snow & More Snow!

This winter have seen some amazing amounts of snow where I live.  Several times we broke records just to break them again a day or 2 later.  As I am posting, it is once again snowing.  Spring can't come soon enough at this rate.  You know I have had enough when I am looking forward to the dirty slushy March period so that I know the end is in sight!

Supplies list can be found here.

On the bright side, I have some great fun photos of my daughter and friends playing in the snow at various points of the winter.  Thus I have a lot of material for creating winter pages.  Last night I finished this fun layout of my daughter and her friend on one of the snow days when school got cancelled.  They made what my daughter termed the Best Snowman Ever.  He was super cool and lasted for several weeks.  I loved his apple nose, raisin eyes, mouth and buttons, his plastercine pipe, top hat and Joan's scarf which looked fabulous and toasty.

Get Picky #5

When I saw this new CTMH paper, I knew right away that I wanted to use it for the Get Picky Sketch #5 and I knew which photos that I wanted to scrap. The hard part was finding the photos.  I knew the photos were from when my DD was 1 or 2 and it took some searching through old printed photos.  Oh, those 35 mm days! It was neat to look at those photos from my prescrapbooking days. So much material to work with there.  It turns out they were from 2002.

Here is the sketch:

Here is my take:

Supplies: patterned paper, cardstock, ink, letter stickers, chipboard letters, font (CTMH), paint (Plaid), punch (Fiskars)

I totally love how it turned out and I used up some old CTMH cardstock and sticker stash too.

Be sure to go check out the other amazing takes on this sketch at the Get Picky Blog.  Even better, give it a try for the prize is so worth it... the entire awesome new Pink Paislee Sweetness Collection!

A little bit of love and Hot Chocolate!

Hot Chocolate of the Fancy Pants kind, that is!  I am so enamoured by this line and was thrilled that it was part of My Scrapbook Nook's January kit.  I was inspired by Valentine's Day and all the hearts I was seeing around.  I free hand drew the background heart mats and just played with this one.

Supplies: patterned paper, cardstock stickers, and alpha stickers (Fancy Pants Designs), cardstock (Bazzill), glitter chipboard alphas (American Crafts), lace (?), glimmer mist (Tattered Angels), embroidery floss (Anchor), pen (Staedtler)

I even experimented with some Glimmer Mist in a dot dabbing foray.  I am just not sure whether I improved the layout with the dabs for it looked good before them.  I definitely need to work on the randomness thing but we all have to start somewhere.

MIA but for a good cause

While I have been quiet on my blog, that just means I have been busy in the rest of my life.  Report card time means limited scrap time but by the end of the week I'll be back at it with an exciting project.  I just got my shipping slip so my supplies for it can be picked up tomorrow.  The upside it is related to this.  The down side is I can't share until June but it I think it will be well worth it.

So to share something scrappy, I am sharing one of my favourite layouts that was recently published in an edition of Scrapbook News and Reviews.

Supplies: CS, chipboard letters, stamps, ink, embossing powder, jewels (CTMH), white pen (Signo)
There are many things that I love about this layout.  First, I love that the pics are from winter and summer from when my DD was 5.  Second, I love how I used up all those U's and thirdly, I am really proud of my title stamping because there is a whole lot of mixing going on but it all works!

Stamping techniques include:
- heat embossed paisley design background on 1/4 circle paper
- 3 stamps used in "make me"
- "Smile" Solo "S" stamp & chocolate alphabet dragged across ink pad to get distressed look, backed onto misc. chipboard

I have lots lined up for the rest of the month and I haven't even started to use my gorgeous Nook February kit featuring Webster's Pages.

It too can be picked up tomorrow. It will be a scrap happy product day for sure!  Lots of uhhing and ahhing... and touching ...smelling ...and staring! Geez that sounds so wrong but you crafters all know what I mean!  LOL! I love new stuff!

Prima Pretties for January Colour Palette

I am loving my latest layout creation.  Lots of misting, masking, stamping and flower layering.

Supplies: Flowers, crocheted flowers and doilie, felt shape and letter stickers (used as masks), alphabet stamps, pearl and lace flourish, canvas bird, pearl centre (Prima), cardstock (Canadian Scrapbooker super stock), Wheatfield and Turquoise Glimmer Mist (Tattered Angels), ink (StazOn and Stampin' Up), liquid glass (CTMH), jewels (Dollarama), pen (Staedtler)

I made  this one based on Prima's January Colour Palette.  I am really liking this new monthly dimension to their blog.  I wish I could find the time to participate in both the BAP and Color Palette Challenges.  Too many scrappy ideas, not enough scrappy time!
