Get Picky GDT Inspiration Challenge #15

Happy New Year!

With the start of the New Year, comes another really fun Inspiration Challenge from Get Picky.  For this one, you are challenged to create a multi photo layout about something that you might resolve to do this year.  It can be anything that you please or you can draw inspiration from the poem posted, as I did for my Guest Designer layout.  There is lots to choose from that will resonate with many.

I drew my inspiration from this line of the poem "Find time in each day to see the beauty and love in the world around you." Which you can see is my title and journaling. This is something that both my dd and I should and will try to do this New Year. With the constant go-go of our everyday lives, it is important to stop, take a moment and focus on the people and nature around you and appreciate them.

I used Crate Paper's Random collection featured in My Scrapbook Nook's September 2011 kit. Such a gorgeous line full of bright and playfully pretty colours. There is just something about this one that I liked so much, it even made my Top 10 for 2011.  In fact, four of my favs were from Get Picky challenges.  Thanks Tanya and Nikki for the inspiration!

Scrap Happy Holidays! (Something New, a Toot and a Sneak Peek)

I hope that you all had a fun family filled Christmas! If you celebrate some other seasonal celebration, I hope it was fun and family filled too!

Now that Christmas celebrations are completed, I am totally into holiday mode. A little R & R means time to catch up on my project postings and scrapping time.  This is a good thing too as I have a fun and exciting scrappy secret that was finalized this week. I will share more once it is officially announced.

I had a chance to finally get this layout finished.

I have a habit of starting layouts (gathering the need supplies and photos, and sketching the design) but then running out of time to finish it as I move on to the next need-to or now inspired-to-do project.  Thus I essentially have a whole selection of ready to go scrappy kits/projects.  For me, it is the case of not enough time to scrap everything that I have ideas for.  The good thing is that I eventually do come back to the projects and get them completed.

Did you notice my blog's new look?  I really did like the green leaf background that I had for the last year.  It wasn't lack of know how in changing it.  In my way of thinking, there is nothing more beautiful than nature and its' wonderful creations, textures and colours.  However, it really did not have a "scrappy artist look" so I thought to give this new look a try. Thanks to the wonderful artistry at Shabby blogs.com for the items.  What do you think of it?

Now for the little toot share.  Yesterday,  I had the thrill of heading over to Two Peas and seeing my two Get Picky postings both in the Top 3. 



Even better is that I am joined by my super talented and sweet friend Danni.  Her creative talent consistently amazes me! Check out her wonderful creations and I think you will agree. She is up on the October Afternoon blog today too!

Get Picky GDT Sketch #15

I was totally inspired by this Get Picky sketch #15.  In fact I could have scrapped two very different layouts with completely different sets of photos.  Now that is what I call inspiration!

Supplies: patterned papers, cardstock stickers, cardstock letter stickers (Echo Park), cardstock (Bazzill), ink (CTMH), butterfly punches (Fiskars and Martha Stewart), wht pen (Signo), blk pen (Creative Memories), sketch (Get Picky), jewels and staples (miscellaneous)

In the end I decided to use the Echo Park Times and Seasons collection that came in the November kit from the Nook.  The rich colours enhanced these precious  photos of my daughter and a family friend.  I love how it all came together... the photos, the product and the sketch! 

As you can see, my take sticks pretty closely to the original sketch.

Get Picky December Guest Designer

I have been waiting since near the beginning of 2011 for December to come and not just for Christmas.  I am so excited to have the honour of being the guest designer for Get Picky this month.

 Today I am sharing one of the two layouts that are posted in the GDT announcement.

This is a never been seen before layout that I have been holding on to for quite some time.  I love these photos of my daughter and they work so wonderfully that multiple of them can appear on the page as that is a key component to the Get Picky challenges.

I have been a fan of the site and its' challenges since its' launch just over a year ago.  Tanya and Nikki have created an awesome multi-photo blog challenge site that attracts talented people from all over the globe.

While many of you know that I really enjoy working with sketches, one thing I have discovered over the past year through Get Picky, is that I love inspiration prompts too!

Scrap Happy Day!

I woke up this morning and while enjoying my morning tea I thought I would check the Get Picky site for their Inspiration Challenge #9 winners as due to different time zones (it is an Australian site) they post while the eastern part of North America is sleeping.  Talk about starting the day on a high!

Get Picky

While sending in some publications submissions, I got to thinking that the Twilight Beauties layout and I sent if off to Scrapbook and Cards Today on the off chance that it might make it into a Reader's Submission post this summer.  Imagine my surprise when Catherine Tachdjian emailed me back!!! A whole lot of whoo hoo and my daughter came into the kitchen to shush me as apparently my DH was on the phone in another room and had made a displeased face. (Doesn't the man know that it is very exciting to have a layout featured?) Definitely not excitement to be contained, let me tell you. 

Scrapbook and Cards Today Magazine

Is it any wonder that it was a scrap happy day for me today?

What better way to top off this super happy post then with a little scrappy eye candy goodness?  Here is a layout that I made awhile back from a Nook kit (August 2010) but had not posted.

Get Picky has done it again!

The ladies over at Get Picky have done it again with a gorgeous inspiration photo for their June Inspiration Challenge #9.  This time it was the movie poster for Sex in the City 2.  It offered such fabulous shimmery colours that I went with that feel in my layout.

Supplies: patterned paper, artisan frames, notes, corrugated shapes (Pink Paislee/House of 3), Tim Holtz Distress inks (Rangers), Glimmer mists (Tattered Angels), glitter chipboard letters (American Crafts), glitter sticker letters (Making Memories), metal trim (Webster's Pages), floss (DMC), glitter pen (Sakura)

Journaling reads: Squeezing out every last bit of a gorgeous day with an after dinner sunset swim.

I had a chance to use some Tim Holtz Distress inks on the Pink Paislee/House of 3 Parisian Anthology resist papers for this one.  Not to mention Glimmer mist and the sparkly trim from Webster's Pages.  To finish of the glam, I used 2 types of glitter title lettering and a glitter pen for journaling.  Another layout that pushes the playing with techniques envelope with fun results.

Get Picky Inspiration!

When this was posted at Get Picky in April, I thought neat colour combination and inspirational photo. 

I especially loved my Nook friend Carol Manson's take "10 in 2010"!  At the time I thought I did not have any photos that would work with the combo.  Then recently, when I was looking through my last 2 1/2 months photos, I can across my quickly taken photo of my dd before heading off to school for Crazy Hair and House Colour Spirit Day.  Taken on the morning of the Royal wedding, I missed both kisses as I was retrieving hairspray during the first one and then more butterfly clips on the second one, as I created her requested hairstyle.

This year it was to be Trollz hair.  The straight on frontview photo does not do the height of the hair justice and in my rush to get to school, I didn't get a side shot.  On the bright side, I did at least get this one fun photo that I cropped both vertically and horizontally and the colours worked perfectly for the combination.  I used 2 2x3 copies of the horizontal one on each side of the 4x3 vertical one. 

So in the end, I was lucky to be able to get a great layout totally inspired by the photo design, using a colour combo that I would not have likely have used on my own and I got to use up some of my stash.  Thanks Get Picky for inspiring me once again to create a layout that I love!

Get Picky Sketch #6 from Guest Designer Becky Fleck

You only have to look on my sidebar to see I am a fan of Becky Fleck and her PageMaps sketches.  Not only will you find a site badge, but you can see from the number of posts/layouts in the labels menu, that I am.  As some of my favourite layouts that I have made are based on her sketches, I was so excited to see that Becky was the Guest Designer at Get Picky in March.  While I did not have the opportunity to participate in the contest part of the challenge, I loved the sketch and wanted to use it.  Here is the sketch used for March's challenge.

Here is my take:

Supplies: patterned papers, chipboard (MME), cardstock, chalk and blue marker (CTMH), VersaMark (for chalked shape), punches (Stampin' Up, Fiskars), pen (Staedtler), kitchen twine (Misc.)

I had picked up the MME Fine and Dandy from Scrapbook Memories - The Design Studio's brand new location on a March Break sojourn to London, Ontario where I naturally had to LSS shop both on my way and in London.  Once I started to think about what I wanted to do with the sketch, I knew that I wanted to use this line and exactly which pictures I wanted to use.  So again this month it required a trip down memory lane to find the photos in my pre-scrapbooking 35 mm film days.  This time it was back to 2001.  The outfit my DD is wearing is one of my favourite's from her toddler years.  So have to love the Gap for their adorable coordinated lines!

I marvel that I actually have some good photos from then, as I was really just beginning to learn more about photography and how to use my manual camera.  Not to mention, you get what you get as no editing was available with the film developed as is.

Get Picky Inspiration Challenge #5

  This Inspiration Challenge photo over at Get Picky is phenomenal. 

Thus such a beautifully inspirational photo required a pretty artsy take.

Get Picky #5

When I saw this new CTMH paper, I knew right away that I wanted to use it for the Get Picky Sketch #5 and I knew which photos that I wanted to scrap. The hard part was finding the photos.  I knew the photos were from when my DD was 1 or 2 and it took some searching through old printed photos.  Oh, those 35 mm days! It was neat to look at those photos from my prescrapbooking days. So much material to work with there.  It turns out they were from 2002.

I totally love how it turned out and I used up some old CTMH cardstock and sticker stash too.
