4 Amigas

This weekend I did some crafty organizing and rediscovered a partially made layout using a My Creative Scrapbook kit featuring Simple Stories Daily Grind collection. No time like the present, I got it done.

Supplies: patterned papers, die cuts, chipboard (Simple Stories), cork letters (CTMH), ribbon and tag (Misc.), wood veneer (Studio Calico), Baker's Twine (Maya Road), watercolour paints (Daler-Rowney)

I mixed up some watercolour paints to match the blue on the paper and added some splatters to the background. I had fun using lots of little bits from the chipboard pack.

I still have lots of this kit left so I will have to make a few more projects with it.

Love, Love, Love U!

Hi friends! Spreading some seasonal love with this week's take on Simon Says Stamp's Monday Spirtz and Spray challenge.

I got my spray on with Tim Holtz Picked Raspberry Distress Stain and some vintage Heidi Swapp. Always great when I can use up some of my stash.

Hey Sunshine!

At this point in winter, a little sunshine can brighten anyone's day so today I am spreading some around. This mixed media card was inspired by Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge blog's Ray of Sunshine challenge featuring Dina Wakley products.

Supplies: cardstock (Canadian Scrapbooker Super Stock, CTMH), Dina Wakley acrylic paints and stamps (Ranger), watercolour paper (Strathmore 500 Series), watercolour pencils (Derwent, Reeves), sunray stencil (Magenta), Tim Holtz Distress Inks, Archival Ink (Ranger),  VersaMark, StazOn (Tsukineko), clear emboss powder (CTMH), Tim Holtz letter stickers (Advantus), Silhouette cut file, paint marker (Elmer's)

I stamped one of the Scribbly bird sentiments with VersaMark and clear heat embossed it before using a brayer and two of Dina's acrylic paint colours to create the background piece. Once dry, I stamped with the "Tweet. Chirp." stamp from the collection using grey StazOn. Lastly, I splattered white paint from a paint marker. For the ray, I Distress inked a Magenta sunray that I cut from a stencil and layered the fussy cut watercoloured Scribbly bird on top. A Silhouette cut file and some stickers were used for the sentiment.

Sending a little sunshine your way. :)

Watercolour Valentine

"Love is in the air" as Valentine's Day is fast approaching and Simon Says Stamp Monday challenge is based on it along with using some red. I decided to make a Valentine's card using the Day 2 Bonus pattern on pattern technique shown by Lauren Bassen over at Watercolour for Card Makers - Intermediate Techniques class.

Supplies: QoR watercolour paint (Golden), stamps and cork letters (Magenta), 140 lb watercolour paper, Distress ink (Ranger), metal arrow and lace (Tim Holtz by Advantus), clear emboss powder (CTMH), black emboss powder (Stampendous), baker's twine (The Twinery), sequins (Simon Says Stamp), cardstock (Bazzill)

I used Golden QoR watercolour paint on 140 lb Ranger watercolour paper. For the background pattern I used my favourite Magenta Script and Postmark stamp.  My background colour choice allowed me to layer the other colours right on top following the technique taught - albeit for less of a top layer pattern as I decided to only include two freehanded hearts in my design.

TTFN,

Watercolouring Cards

I immensely enjoyed Watercolour for Cardmakers class two years ago, that when I saw that Online Card Classes were offering an Intermediate Techniques version, I had to join. It has turned out to be so chalked full of lessons each day, that it is going to take a while to work my way through them. Way longer than the 12 interactive days allotted in the course but that is okay as once you have enrolled you have lifetime access. Phew! ;)

Today, I am sharing one of my day 1 cards using the wet on wet technique that Dawn Woleslagle taught. Instead of drawing or tracing a die cut, I used a Magenta Sweet Garden flower stencil. It works well as long as you do not saturate the stencil edges. This also allows the flowers to look more free form and less "perfect" from a fully stencilled design. I was not caught up in creating perfect stencilled flowers so as I removed the stencil after wetting a flower to add the colour, I had to be patient to let it dry enough prior to moving on to the next flower so as not to smudge the colour from the previous one.

Supplies: 140 lb watercolour paper (Strathmore 500 series), cardstock (Bazzill), stencil, stamp and Nuances (Magenta), Archival ink (Ranger)

I was curious to see how Nuances would work for this as a watercolour. I used Hot Pink, Orange, and Golden Yellow for the flowers and Grass Green for the leaves on 140 lb Strathmore 500 series cold press paper. I chose to use a very concentrated mix of each colour but it is possible to get a paler effect by mixing in more water on your tray prior to painting. These turned out so fabulously bright and vivid. I love it.
