Magenta Nuances Masterboard ATCs Part 2

Last Friday, over on the Magenta blog, I shared the first three ATCs in a three part series all made from a masterboard created using the three original Nuance blues.  If you missed out on last week's first edition post, you can find it here.

To recap, I took a masterboard created on a 9 x 12 piece of 90lb watercolour paper using Nuance blue colours (Turquoise, Cerulean Blue, and Royal Blue).  I cut it into nine - 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" pieces and created a bunch of ATCs using stencils and stamps from the Summer 2016 collection with the added touch of gold foil. Each background piece was unique and the background colour helped determine what additional colours and/or designs would best suit it.

For the background, I used the cute Doily mask and created three circular sections with it by colouring them Grass Green Nuance. Once dry, I repositioned the mask back to where it was used and I used a white pen to add floral details. Next, I positioned the Flower Silhouette stencil and filled it in with a glue stick before adding the gold foil to it. I let it sit for 5 minutes prior to removing the foil sheet to ensure that the glue had set up. I ran the glue stick along the edges of the card and added gold foil there too. Lastly, I heat emboss stamped the Wonderful World sentiment.

For this ATC, I went with a wet on wet watercolour technique and dried the paper between colour addition layers. First, I heat embossed the Wild Rose flower image in black. After water colouring with Hot Pink and Grass Green Nuance, I heat embossed the "magic all around" parts of the sentiment stamp that I wanted in white and added some grey marker shadowing to make it pop. Lastly, I masked off the image with its' stamp backing and glue stamped the background with my favourite Script and Postmark stamp and added the gold foil.

This one required a little creative colour mixing as I intentionally wanted to create "mud" or rather, hues of brown. After heat emboss stamping the Doodle Feather in black, I started with a bit of Yellow and Purple Nuance powders and a few spritzes of water on my craft mat. Then, I mixed in some Golden Yellow and filled in the whole feather and adding some to the background. Then, I added some Orange Nuance to deepen the colour and added it to sections of the feather. I used the stamp's backing as a mask and splatter a bit of watered down gesso for some background interest. Once the card was completely dry, I stamped the Carpe Diem sentiment in two parts using VersaMark and Ranger Sticky embossing powder. Next, I added the gold foil. Lastly, I inked the edges of the card with Distress ink and then added a few splatters of glue and a touch of gold foil to finish it off.

Carpe Diem with some Simple Stories

You just can't help but smile at pieces of Simple Stories Carpe Diem collection. Besides some 12 by 12 sheets, I purchased the journaling cards to use on scrap layouts and cards.

I scrapped this layout for fun after seeing this photo of my daughter and her friends on her phone.

I used this Struck?! Sketches sketch from April as I thought it would go well with the journaling cards. I am pleased with how they worked out.

4 Amigas

This weekend I did some crafty organizing and rediscovered a partially made layout using a My Creative Scrapbook kit featuring Simple Stories Daily Grind collection. No time like the present, I got it done.

I mixed up some watercolour paints to match the blue on the paper and added some splatters to the background. I had fun using lots of little bits from the chipboard pack.

I still have lots of this kit left so I will have to make a few more projects with it.

Catching Up with LGS layouts

It has been a drought here on my blog over the fall months. While Fall is normally a busy time in my household with me being a teacher, this year's autumn took everything out of me... literally... zapped, zilch, zero; thus, I had to solely concentrate on trying to get my health in order. I have missed my creative peeps and creating new stuff. As is the norm for me, I get a chance to catch up when I get vacation time. Yeah!

So let the posting catch up begin! Today, I have a bunch of layouts that I made for a variety of Let's Get Sketchy Design Team reveals in September and October over on the LGS blog.

Total stash find! This really old MME paper and diecuts paired with some old MM transparencies and labels but the best part (besides the stickin' cute photos) is the heat embossed "Oh My Dogness!" title created from a Magenta stamp.

Cracked into Simple Stories So Fancy collection and had a little fun (or should I say sarcastic scrap session) with these selfies of my daughter hamming it up. Yep... she is sooo fancy! Lol!

Stashed Away

Last night, when I saw the Let's Get Sketchy sketch for this week, I knew that it was perfect for this Polaroid photo of my daughter from the summer she was five. Today I spent some of my Mother's Day scrapbooking. A little me time creating with my memories. Such a pleasant way to spend the afternoon.

I came across the photo stashed away at the back of a drawer, a few weeks ago, and added it to my to-be-scrapped bin. It brought back a great memory of how much joy and happiness that cute little bunny brought her that we were suckers to pay the $2 dollars that the Bunny Hutch guy charged for the Polaroid during a local summer festival. That was ten years ago now and before camera phones. LOL! It was well worth it, even though the photo is not the best. It is purely that moment captured with the bunny and her huge smile. Priceless!

I used Simple Stories DIY Boutique. Love the bright happy feel of the colours in that collection.

They were just right to bring it all together.

Creative Ideas Journal Cover

Do you have a place that you store all your crafty ideas? I do it the old fashioned way in a notebook. It has sketches of my creations, materials used or that I wish to use, journaling, dates that I have completed projects, etc. I both record as ideas and inspiration strike as well as while in the process of creating. This book is always at hand's reach when I create.

I started this newest journal edition awhile ago but I had yet to make a cover for it. Well, today was the day.

I used up some old stash, as well as upcycled items.  The dyed mother of pearl buttons are antiques that I had in a button box that I got years ago at auction. The jean remnant, leftover from an old well-worn pair of mine. The partial crochet doily is the leftover from this beloved layout. With all the fabrics and notions, I thought it would be perfect to stitch the edge on the cover.

The element that was interesting to fashion was the label. I adhered the aluminum foil shiny side down onto an 140lb piece of cardstock to give it a more galvanized/brushed nickel look. After stamping the Fontwerks label image onto it using StazOn, I fussy cut around the outer edge leaving a border. Then I got out an old embossing stylus and embossed the in-between frames part and the border edge. This gave it some dimension and character and then it was ready for the Glimmer Misted Studio Calico wood veneer letters to be adhered to it. 

I am digging the shabby chic colours on this and the sentiment (which is similar to one currently on a Magenta stamp) that I thought was perfect for my journal purposes.

A Little Christmas Joy

Yeah for scrapping time!  I had a chance to scrap a layout today of a dear friend's adorable little daughter.  I used this month's Sassy Scrappers' December Mood Board as inspiration and then got all mixed media'd up...

I tried out some new things with this one.  The stars are made from aluminum foil, crinkled and glued onto cover stock, and then Silhouette Cameo cut.

The green glass accents are from Michaels. They were actually from their spring vase fillers collection from this year. I thought they would look cool on projects and they did not disappoint. I adhered them with gel medium. 

The centre photo is printed on vellum to soften it to use as the background to part of the title.

Card Catch Up

Today, I am sharing a few cards that I made in the spring but just had not gotten to posting.  Hope you enjoy them.

Using Simple Stories Daily Grind Collection from a My Creative Scrapbook kit, I made this masculine birthday card.

I had a good time giving it some dimension and playing with the stickers for reading flow.

I was so stoked that Simple Stories reposted it when I put it up on my Instagram account.


I dug into it my stash and made a card for a friend's birthday.  I used an old Kate collection from Making Memories to create this card.

I used Bugaboo Digi Stamps' bird that I coloured with gelatos and tucked it into a neat nest made from some funky dollar store ribbon. I also used their Stella Says Sketch #208 for inspiration.

Lastly, a quick and simple card that I made for my Magenta ATC swap partner to tuck them in on their travels when I sent them off to the Netherlands. Love the big script font in the Winnie & Walter Hello stamp.

Beach Diggin'

Yeah! A second just scrap it layout complete. I did this one a while ago but hadn't had a chance to share it.

Also, while I have several summer collections from Simple Stories, this "I heart Summer" collection is my fave. Lucky or unlucky for me (depending how you look at it), I have lots of it to play with. LOL!

Be Happy!

I love how at times when inspiration strikes, you are compelled to create.  Last night was such a night.  I was checking out my blog reader feed when I saw a fabulous sketch reposted by Sue on her blog. Her take on this Scrap & Music sketch is spectacular. Even though the challenge was closed to entries, I loved the sketch and the music prompt so much, I immediate printed it off.  Then before I headed to my scrap room to begin, I saw Rachell Funnell's post in the feed and her stunning layout created for a challenge on a new DT that she has joined over at Off the Rails Scrapbooking. Well that challenge is to Bling It Up, and I do like adding a little sparkle to my projects so it was a natural fit! Lucky for me that challenge had just begun.


The Simple Stories' Vintage Bliss collection was just the thing for the Bobbie McFerrin lyrics.  A little Magenta stenciling, some gelato-ing (new word..LOL!), a few butterflies and a batch of bling... et voila...

First lined with black pen and gelato colour swiped along leftside and then set with wet brush.  Additional gelato splatters applied liberally over the diamond area.  The doilie was coloured to match using an ink pad and water.  A fussy cut border from another piece of patterned paper.  Lots of inking and a punched glitter glued and blinged up butterfly.

A few of my favourite things

Well "selfie" made it into the dictionary in 2013 and living in a house with a teenager, I can sure understand the how and the why of it.  My goodness the number of self portraits young people take is astounding! My daughter and I were going through her electronic devices looking at photos when I spied this one and thought that it would be great for a layout using the December inspiration mood board at Scrap Around the World.

I used molding paste, on worn old wood with silver and bluish green touches ...

... and some Lucky Brand Clothing packaging "peacock feather swag" (as my daughter refers to it).

What I was attracted to in the board was some fav elements of mine...  old wood and plaster frames (I have a collection of them), the aquamarine silver ring and the large feather in the ladies hand . 

The perfect accompaniment to my daughter's filtered "selfie".

Swimmin' with Fish

What is summertime without swimming?  My little one loves to swim.  She has the long lean body for it too. Once the warm weather hits, she can be continually found in the water, whether at the lake or at the pool or at the cottage, that girl swims.

Today's layout that I am sharing is an ode to Alex's swimming. The title says it all.

I used the I Heart Summer Collection from Simple Stories and I played along with the August Week 2 sketch at Let's Get Sketchy.


I started the page knowing I wanted water-like droplets on the page.  To achieve this, I used gelatos.  I simply rubbed a blue gelato in the bottom of a plastic container, added some water and dissolved the gelato by mixing it with my finger.  To get the coordinating colour shade, I swiped the Margarita Mix chartreuse green along the side of the container and then mixed it in with the water.  It was ready to go.  I dipped the back end of a small paint brush handle into the tiny amount of gelato solution and splattered drops on the page.

Besides the droplets I knew I wanted a fishnet for under the photo.  I made the fish net by knotting a section of 12 strings by 10 strings of kitchen twine.  I coloured it by misting it with water and then applying two colours of distress ink to it.  Then letting it dry before adhering it to the cardstock.

Lots of little bits and dimension on this one as I used various thickness of foam pop ups.

Here is the very versatile sketch from Let's Get Sketchy that I used.  I changed up the flowers for a variety of different elements and embellishments.
